2-1-1
First Call for Help of Broward County is a 24-hour free,
confidential telephone Helpline for crisis/suicide counseling, empathetic
listening and community information and referrals for health and human
service resources in Broward County, Florida. 2-1-1 is the New
National Information Resource and Referral number to obtain information to
Social Services, Crisis information, and Resources. Many states have
2-1-1 implemented. Surf
here for the information in your state.
Why?
Because if you have ever had an officer pick up a homeless person and had
you look up a homeless shelter that was open and was receiving, then you
need 2-1-1. Each 2-1-1 center has a computerized database containing
thousands of agencies and programs to assist people in need or
crisis.
To sample how this works, se
this link to view the 211
Broward County database. Click on "Keyword", i.e. substance
abuse, in the left column and you will get a list of programs for that
problem or need.
